Ms. Erika's Pre-K Maker Space

A Brief History: After attending a wonderful professional development seminar on the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood eduction, I was inspired to create a pre-k maker space where my students could build, create, and bring their imaginations to life. I used a part of my room that was not being utilized well.

Everyday I rotate who can use the maker space activity. During their "free choice" time during the day, students can go and work in the maker space. Each week, new materials are added/changed. Students can choose from a wide variety of materials - from cups, to clay, to beads, to paint, and much more. Students work independently and also collaborate with each other. It is wonderful watching them learn from each other. When students finish a piece of work, it is labeled with their name. They take such pride in seeing their work on display.
